Biography
*Setareh*
(set-ar-aye) pronounced like Monterey.
Setareh took up the art of belly dance as a teenager and fell in love with the diversity of this dance and all of its nuances. For over ten years, she has performed for audiences at festivals, competitions, parties, weddings, and restaurants. Having studied with many of the great names in belly dance, Setareh is proficient in a variety of styles, but she is best known for her rich fusion of belly dance techniques that creates her own unique style. Setareh often incorporates elements from her environment into her performances, and has been described as a master of improvisation. She is a former member of several dance troupes, including Dancers of the Crescent Moon, Sittat al Ghawazee, and Saba Banat. She has won awards, but does not consider herself to be a competitive dancer. She dances every day, and is a featured dancer at several restaurants in the SF Bay Area, California.
She has inspired dozens of dancers to embrace this unique dance form and to experience the many physical and spiritual benefits of belly dance. Having taught belly dance since 2000, Setareh has a proven track record of imparting her techniques successfully to her dance students. She currently works as a dance instructor through the City of San Jose and Stanford University, among others. Setareh also teaches workshops on her belly dance techniques, offers coaching for advanced dancers and professional performers, and is always interested in opportunities to travel to other regions as a performer and instructor.
